So is it any surprise people would buy the 4090 for $1600, which is technically far cheaper than the last two generation's top GPU prices? To be fair, when we are buying a $1600 card, it would be like we are spending $1300 if it were five years ago.

With the rumors I've seen surrounding the 5090 suggesting a 50% faster card and a large increase in Cuda core counts, I see the 5080 being about as fast as a 4090 or beating it by a max of 5-10%. (+65% performance, +7% price) By contrast, the RTX 4080 (both 12 and 16 GB) had larger price increases and smaller performance increases.
