It was a near-perfect night in north London, until Spurs gave up an 83rd-minute goal to make things nervy ahead of the second leg in Norway next week.

It is 17 years since Tottenham won the League Cup, their last bit of silverware. Mauricio Pochettino and serial winners Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte were unable to bring trophies to Spurs. On top of ending that trophy drought, it would give Spurs a Champions League spot - despite sitting 23 points off those places in the league.

The late goal by Bodø/Glimt took a little of the shine off of what was otherwise a solid win. Tottenham might have taken a virtually unassailable lead into next week’s return fixture in Norway, but settled instead for a two goal advantage. The final score was 3-1.
