Because on Saturday, the struggles of the No. 5 starter continued in an 8-4 loss to the Rays in front of 41,662 rain-soaked fans at Citi Field, where the Mets dropped a series — snapping a streak of six series they either won or tied — before Sunday’s finale.
Tampa Bay’s 17-6 record since May 20 is the best in baseball, and the Rays showed a lot of the reasons why Saturday.
Danny Jansen hit a two-run homer to cap Tampa Bay’s six-run sixth inning and the Rays came back to beat the Mets 7-5 and snap New York’s six-game winning streak.
The one and only Stitches has been handicapping baseball, daily, for the Post since 2019. Miraculously, he has finished in the black twice. But wait there’s more. He showed his versatility by winning the Post’s NFL Best Bet crown last year.
The Mets had not lost a series at Citi Field since the Arizona Diamondbacks won back-to-back games there on April 30 and May 1.
