Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has removed himself for consideration for the North Carolina vacancy, according to NFL Network's

The Steelers made the right decision bringing in Arthur Smith to clean up the offense, and it appears that's how it will be moving forward.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had an entire fan base anxiously awaiting an offensive coordinator hire after the 2023 season. Matt Canada was uncharacteristically fired in the middle of the season, leading to interim roles for Mike Sullivan and Eddie Faulkner.

Smith says he had a conversation with the university about their coaching vacancy where he played on the offensive line in the early 2000s. Smith's coaching career started there in Chapel Hill as a graduate assistant in 2006. He says the university reached out to him about the job, but says he doesn't plan on leaving Pittsburgh anytime soon.

Smith spent his college career at UNC as a player (2001-05) and worked as a graduate assistant there to begin his coaching tenure.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith confirmed Thursday that North Carolina reached out to him about its coaching vacancy.

Arthur Smith said that his alma mater North Carolina "reached out" to him, but that his focus is on "one of the best jobs in football" with Steelers.
