Flash flooding from torrential rain killed at least three people Tuesday afternoon and prompted dozens of rescues in the Ruidoso area of southern New Mexico, officials said — the same area devastated by two wildfires last year. A house was seen being carried downstream by the fast-moving water.

As residents and businesspeople in Ruidoso assess the damage caused by heavy and dangerous flooding, others can find ways to help. Here is what to know.

The victims, who were swept downstream by the unprecedented floodwaters, include a man aged between 40 and 50, a 4-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old boy. Officials said they are not releasing their identities at the moment.

Floodwaters reaching more than 20 feet hit the Village of Ruidoso Tuesday, and claimed the lives of three people, including two children. On Wednesday, Mayor Lynn D.
