The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held an extraordinary meeting on 12 December and adopted a resolution initiated by Ukraine, condemning attacks on the critical energy infrastructure of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

Military analysts had speculated that Moscow could escalate such attacks as a show of force after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, its ally.

The U.N. nuclear watchdog's 35-nation Board of Governors passed a resolution on Thursday condemning attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, but failing to mention Russia as the culprit.

Russia unleashed one of the largest airborne assaults of the conflict against Ukraine's infrastructure, launching almost 300 missiles and drones against targets from Lviv in the west to Kharkiv in the east.

The 35-nation IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution condemning attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure but did not explicitly name Russia as responsible, Reuters reported on Dec. 12.
