Former Theranos founder and Houston resident Elizabeth Holmes spoke about her experience living at a Bryan, Texas, prison during an interview with People.

Elizabeth Holmes, the Theranos founder who is serving an 11-year sentence for fraud, has described her life behind bars as “hell and torture,” in her first interview from prison, published in People on Wednesday.

Disgraced former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes said it's been “hell and torture” behind bars during a rare interview from prison, revealing how her life has drastically changed since she has been locked up on fraud and conspiracy charges.

Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes has given her first interview since entering prison. Holmes maintains her innocence and said she plans to continue working in the health care tech space after she is released.

Holmes is serving a reduced sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas for fraud and conspiracy related to the collapse of her biotech company.

In a new interview, the Theranos fraudster said she pumped breast milk for her infant daughter as she was driven to her federal prison in Texas to surrender for her 11-year sentence.

More than 20 months since Elizabeth Holmes reported to prison, her days are far different than Silicon Valley boardroom and investor meetings.

"I refused to plead guilty to crimes I did not commit. Theranos failed. But failure is not fraud," she said in a new interview, her first from prison.
