In a new report, the Justice Department’s inspector general found that the agency violated its own rules to snoop on reporters.

The U.S. Justice Department's internal watchdog said on Tuesday that prosecutors' decision to subpoena phone and email records from members of Congress and their staff during President-elect Donald Trump's first term risked a chilling effect on congressional oversight.

In 2017 and 2018, Trump’s Justice Department collected phone records and text message logs belonging to 43 congressional staffers and two House Democrats in a sweep that “risks chilling Congress’s ability to conduct oversight of the executive branch,” Inspector General Michael Horowitz wrote in his 91-page report that was published on Tuesday.

Justice Department officials alleged Worcester police officers had sexual encounters with women they were investigating for prostitution.

The report includes graphic details about allegations of sexual contact between police officers and women engaged in prostitution.
