Stephen King adaptations will be big in 2025, but one movie that will release in February looks like it could be one of the year's best horror films.

Adapting a Stephen King novel is no easy feat, and the recent Salem's Lot movie and its reception is proof of that. The 2024 Max movie left audiences with mixed-to-negative reactions, especially due to comparisons with the iconic TV miniseries. However, there is another adaptation of the same novel that is worth another look.

Written and directed by Longlegs helmer Osgood Perkins and adapted from King's short story of the same name, The Monkey follows twin brothers Hal and Bill (both played by Theo James), who witnessed a string of horrifying deaths as children after discovering their father's toy monkey in the attic.

Osgood Perkins' THE MONKEY is super over the top, really disgusting, and a blast. It has a blunt comedic sensibility that pairs wonderfully with its extreme gore, and it successfully earns the superlative ‘Funniest Stephen King Movie.
