About 500 workers at Samsung's plant in south India are holding a sit-in to protest against the suspension of three employees, and the company has deployed contract workers to fill the gap, two sources said.

Samsung (KS:005930) is facing a sit-in protest by around 500 workers at its plant in southern India, Reuters reported on Friday.

The sit-in strike by the employees, about 500 of them (from a total of 1,750), would continue if their immediate demands are not met with, union sources said.

CNBC-TV18 learned that Samsung saw strong disciplinary reasons for the suspension, including the claim that the unnamed employees were coercing workers at the plant to rise in protest against the company.

The company also promised more employee benefits like leave and insurance. After this, the Madras High Court ordered that SIWU be registered under the Tamil Nadu Labour Department. This latest standoff between employees and management at Samsung's Sriperumbudur plant shows that the two parties have unresolved issues.
