Google is migrating Chrome browser extensions to a new specification that limits the functionality of ad blockers.

Google is disabling the original uBlock Origin ad blocker for more Chrome browser users, alongside other extensions that are no longer supported as the browser migrates to its new extension specification,

Google Chrome users have been warned to delete 16 “malicious” browser extensions that could lead to a security threat and “fraud” at the hands of a prolific “threat actor.”

Block Origin ad blocker and other legacy extensions as it imposes its new Manifest V3 spec. The action impacts Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, where users now receive notifications urging them to uninstall unsupported extensions.

Google Chrome Extensions such as uBlock Origin are switched off as the browser firm enforces security updates.

Google continues its rollout of gradually disabling uBlock Origin and other Manifest V2-based extensions in the Chrome web browser as part of its efforts to push users to Manifest V3-based extensions.

As reported by Notebookcheck, a number of popular extensions that enable things like dark mode and adblocking in Google’s browser have been hijacked by hackers, putting 3.2 million Chrome users at risk.
