Mayor Brandon Johnson made an eleventh-hour decision to cancel a Friday vote on his 2025 budget plan, the latest setback for the mayor after months of squabbling with aldermen and failing to shore up enough support in the City Council to finalize a $17.

Even some members of the mayor's Progressive Caucus, including Alds. Rossana Rodriguez Sanchez, Jessie Fuentes and Angelo Clay, were refusing to play along by passing a budget balanced with the help of a $68.

The mayor’s office has told members of the City Council their intention is to return next week to hold a vote, but it’s not clear that enough support will materialize by then to move forward with a meeting.
