With Texas facing a 4th-and-2 at the Texas A&M 15, Manning replaced starter Quinn Ewers and scrambled for the game's first touchdown. Manning was initially ruled to have gone out of bounds before scoring, but that call was overturned by a review. The touchdown gave Texas a 7-0 lead with 3:07 left in the first quarter.

Quintrevion Wisner ran for a career-high 186 yards and Quinn Ewers threw a touchdown pass in the win, but it was Manning who got Texas jump-started. With Texas facing a fourth-and-2 late in the first quarter, Manning scrambled for a 15-yard touchdown by diving to the end zone pylon to give the Longhorns a 7-0 lead.
