Jimmy Butler is heading west to play for the Golden State Warriors.

Jimmy Butler said he's "happy to be playing basketball again" in his introductory press conference with the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. He was emphatic about his singular focus of winning a championship while downplaying the idea that the Warriors were not his preferred destination after all reporting had indicated Butler preferred joining the Phoenix Suns as he angled for an exit from the Miami Heat.

After acquiring Jimmy Butler, Golden State still has pieces to work with before Thursday’s deadline. Guard Gary Payton II and big man Kevon Looney represent more than $17 million of expiring contracts with which the Warriors could make another deal.

The mercurial star goes to Golden State — and agrees to a contract extension — to form a veteran core with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
