Johnson kept it status quo on special teams, retaining Richard Hightower as special teams coordinator. Hightower has been with the Bears for the past three seasons and should bring an important level of continuity to what otherwise looks like a brand-new group of coaches.

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to hire former Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus as their new defensive coordinator, a league source told UPI on Monday.

On Monday, the Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson away from the Detroit Lions to be Matt Eberflus’ replacement as head coach. The former Lions’ offensive coordinator has no experience as a head coach, so it was expected that the 38-year-old would look at hiring former head coaches to fill out the Bears’ coaching staff.
