Frontline indices- the Sensex and the Nifty 50- closed in the red on Wednesday, March 12. The Sensex closed 73 points, or 0.10 per cent, lower at 74,029.76, while the Nifty 50 closed at 22,470.50, down 27 points,

Despite sharp selling on Wall Street, the decline in Sensex and Nifty is at a slower pace. On March 12, broad-based selling was recorded across indices including midcap and small-caps. IT stocks were the worst hit.

The stock market is witnessing a mixed trend today, with the BSE Midcap index holding steady, while the Smallcap index slips 1%. Among sectors, FMCG, power, metal, telecom, and media are showing strength, gaining 0.5-1%. On the flip side, consumer durables, capital goods, and PSU banks are facing mild declines of 0.4% each.
