A judge on Friday ordered the government to facilitate the return of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was deported in error to El Salvador.

Judge Paula Xinis directed the federal government to return Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia back to the U.S. by Monday, April 7, at 11:59 p.m.

His legal presence in the US was based on a protection known as “withholding of removal,” which was granted by an immigration judge in 2019. That status is awarded when a judge determines that deporting someone would expose them to persecution or torture in their home country.
