In a matter-of-fact update that did not address the conspiracy theories swirling in right-wing media, Austin police said that Mr. White, 36, was trying to thwart his vehicle from being stolen outside his apartment complex on Sunday night when someone shot him and fled. Mr. White later died at the hospital.

In a statement, Jones said, “We are deeply saddened to inform you that Infowars reporter Jamie White was brutally murdered around midnight Sunday night. We pledge that Jamie’s tragic death will not be in vain, and those responsible for this senseless violence will be brought to justice.”

In a video this afternoon announcing White’s death, Jones made it clear that he placed the blame for White’s murder squarely at the feet of Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza.
