Payal Kapadia’s “All We Imagine as Light” has struck a chord with young Indian audiences, exploring themes of urban displacement and chosen family that resonate deeply with a generation navigating life in metropolitan cities.

Besides All We Imagine as Light, other Indian films were nominated at the BAFTA 2025. Sandhya Suri's Santosh and Karan Kandhari's Sister Midnight were nominated in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category. Dev Patel was also nominated in this category for directing Monkey Man.

Organized by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the BAFTAs celebrate outstanding cinematic achievements from around the globe. Competing alongside AWIAL in this category are Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, Walter Salles’ I’m Still Here, Rich Peppiatt’s Kneecap, and Mohammad Rasoulof’s The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
