After months of fraught negotiations with the United States, Japan clinched a deal just days before punitive tariffs were scheduled to take effect.

Europe will soon have trade negotiations with the US. For now, the US government was able to strike a positive trade deal with Japan.

The agreement will impose tariffs of 15 percent on Japanese goods, down from a threatened 25 percent. Trump said Japan would also invest $550 billion in the U.S.
