Just three days out from the MLB trade deadline on July 31, here are the latest MLB rumors from around the league.
The 2025 MLB trade deadline arrives at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 31, so teams only have between now and then to make trades involving players on their 40-man rosters. Waiver claims can still happen at a later date, but for trades involving big-leaguers, this is it.
The Tigers acquired right-handers Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak from the Minnesota Twins on Monday, July 28 — just three days before the MLB trade deadline, which is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Although Paddack becomes a free agent after 2025, Dobnak has team options for 2026, 2027 and 2028.
The 2025 MLB trade deadline is on Thursday, July 31 and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in the middle of rumors, speculation and chatter. The team has already traded Josh Naylor and Randal Grichuk for pitching prospects.
The Cubs’ biggest need, with about a week before the July 31 deadline, is starting pitching. Lugo, who held the Cubs to four hits and two runs in six innings, will be highly sought after by contending teams if the Royals make him available. But their trade-deadline direction is unclear.
