Xbox Game Pass may have crossed 35 million subscribers sometime in mid-2024, based on a LinkedIn listing spotted by user Timur222 (via GameRant ). Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the number or timing, but the milestone lines up with previous growth trends.

Microsoft has needed to respond to SteamOS ever since the Steam Deck launched three years ago, and it has steadily been tweaking its Xbox app and the Xbox Game Bar on Windows to make both more handheld-friendly. But there was always a bigger overhaul of Windows required, and we’re starting to see parts of that today.

Xbox appears to have given up on supporting physical media for first-party games on its own console, much to the frustration of fans.

Nintendo Switch 2 is out. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been announced. And yet, Xbox hasn't committed to launching anything on the new Nintendo system right now, apart from next month's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4. Well, Microsoft and Activision are still working to get the franchise on the platform, it's been confirmed.

Of course, Xbox isn’t the first video game company to charge $80 for a video game. Nintendo famously broke the internet when it announced that Mario Kart World on Switch 2 was going to be priced at $80. And I’d bet my next lunch that GTA 6 will cost at least $80 when it arrives in May 2026.
