A longtime hotel in downtown Salt Lake City will soon be torn down to make room for a parking lot to accommodate the large crowds expected for the Salt Lake Temple open house in 2027.

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake Plaza Hotel will close on Nov. 1, then be demolished. The structure, located at 122 W South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City, was built in 1973.
