Mercedes has just unveiled a major upgrade to its popular CLA range, which not only adds some new styling but also makes this car a whole lot smarter.

Powering the internal-combustion version of the CLA is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder Miller-cycle engine. Dubbed the M 252 internally by Mercedes-Benz, this turbocharged four-cylinder works with an electric motor that’s integrated within the eight-speed transmission.

The current Mercedes-Benz CLA was introduced in 2020. It’s long been described as a coupe, but the reality is it’s more of a fastback sedan. It’s also the gateway to the brand sitting just below the GLA crossover on the price ladder.

The launch models will get up to 349bhp and 492 miles of range, and will be joined by a series of hybrids later this year
