Hurricane Iona and Tropical Storm Keli are moving west well south of the state. There is also third area the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking for tropical cyclone development east of Keli. All three systems will not threaten Hawaii with severe weather, but stronger winds are likely as they pass to our south.

“Confidence remains high that Iona will stay well south of the Hawaiian Islands,” forecasters report. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles from the center, while tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center. There are no other coastal watches or warnings in effect.

At 11 a.m., Iona was located about 735 miles south-southeast of Honolulu, packing maximum sustained winds of 125 mph with higher gusts. The hurricane was moving west at 14 mph, and forecasters expect that motion to continue with some increase in forward speed over the next couple of days.
