World champion D Gukesh fought back from a hopeless position to eke out a draw against Alireza Firouzja of France in the first game of the final round of the first Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour.

D Gukesh will have one last shot at signing off on a winning note from this event when he faces Alireza Firouzja in the seventh-place playoff, the first game of which takes place on Thursday.
