Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool have united to condemn “in the strongest possible terms” racist abuse directed at Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure on social media.

Liverpool and Everton have condemned the racist abuse received by home midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure in Wednesday's Merseyside derby after he was involved in a melee at full-time when the game ended in a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were shown second yellow cards for their part in a brawl following the full-time whistle in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Everton on Wednesday

It was a response to Everton fans directing "you lost the league at Goodison Park" after Liverpool were defeated here near the end of last season. And those supporters would have had every right to believe the title was on its way back to Anfield as Salah's late strike looked to be putting them nine points clear of Arsenal.
