US industries and protectionists are raising alarms with President Donald Trump’s pact with Japan, saying it risks undercutting his stated goals of rebalancing America’s trading relationships and reviving domestic manufacturing.

T he U.S. and Japan have reached a trade agreement under which the longtime U.S. will face a 15% tariff—down from a previously threatened 25%—President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday, as Japan’s Prime Minister hailed the move as a “new golden era” in the relationship between the two countries.

Japan will invest $550 billion in the U.S. and allow the U.S. to tax Japanese goods sold in America at 15 percent.
