PHILADELPHIA — Cities large and small were preparing for major demonstrations Saturday across the U.S. against President Donald Trump, as officials urge calm, National Guard troops mobilize and Trump attends a military parade in Washington to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary.
After the conclusion of the rally, a smaller group of approximately 200 individuals, who were not affiliated with the event organizers, remained in the Uptown area and engaged in additional marches resulting in two arrests.
Millions were expected to gather in “No Kings” demonstrations in over 1,500 cities on Saturday, the same day the Army is celebrating its 250th anniversary on Trump’s birthday.
Most of the events in Sarasota and Manatee counties took place this morning, though the rally scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at J.D. Hamel Park on Sarasota's bayfront is expected to draw the largest number of protesters.
