WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will be lit Tuesday, marking the start of the holiday season in Washington D.C. This year’s “People’s Tree” is an 80-foot Sitka Spruce. It made the trip all the way from Alaska to take center stage on the National Mall for the holidays.

Service members and families welcomed the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree for a public viewing on Nov. 21, celebrating its journey from Alaska’s Tongass National Forest.

The San Carlos Apache Tribe has brought the holiday spirit to the Arizona State Capitol by donating a towering 40-foot Ponderosa pine.

A Holiday Tradition Since 1964

Gov. Greg Gianforte, alongside first lady Susan Gianforte, lit the State Capitol Christmas Tree at a ceremony Monday night.

A 24-foot Christmas tree has arrived in the State Capitol to signal the holiday season’s beginnings. Officials say this year’s tree originates from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Carbon County and is taller than previous trees.

With relatively little trouble, state workers erected this year's Christmas tree inside the Capitol rotunda on Wednesday morning.

Dozens gathered to enjoy cookies, hot drinks and carols before Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham arrived to begin the proceedings with the help of the children gathered.

The annual lighting of the tree outside the Roundhouse had performances by the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra, a youth choir, and the National Guard's 44th Army Band.
