LATAKIA, Syria - For several days, Syria’s coastal province of Latakia has been grappling with relentless wildfires. Although Syrian officials have announced near-total control over most of the affected areas,
Swathes of forested area and farmland have burnt, some villages evacuated as fires raged, including near the Turkish border.
Syrian firefighters are combating severe wildfires exacerbated by heavy winds and leftover war ordnance. Despite international aid from nearby countries, blazes remain challenging, particularly in Latakia.
